Capercaillie

The Capercaillie is a native game bird of the Conifer forests of Europe. For this one, it wasn’t so much the colors as the shape of the feathers that attracted me.

Raggiana Bird of Paradise

I noticed that all of my birds were usingĀ  a lot of the same colors. I decided to draw something more exotic and colorful. The birds of paradise are widely regarded as the most colorful and exotic, and the Raggiana especially caught my eye.

Sandgrouse

The Sandgrouse is a native of Africa, in the southern Saharan desert. I decided to draw it because of its vivid colors.

One weekend, my whole family piled into the car and headed to the local raptor center to watch the Fall raptor release. The place was surprisingly crowded, so we had to rush in order to get a good spot to watch from. Even so, the batteries in our cameras were dying, so we had very little time for pictures. What we did get turned out to be very good material to work from.
